I have a goal of fixing the small things on my son’s 67 coupe so he can drive it back east for his daily driver while he is in the Army. Some are cosmetic, like the door hinge. The driver doesn’t have a pin for the door stop to work and holding it open with a jack stand is getting annoying while I am working on other things. So, time to replace or repair the hinge.

I wanted to try to salvage the hood and trunk lids from the original since they look pretty good. Any of the original sheet metal I can keep, I will. So long as keeping it doesn’t mean spending more to repair it than it would cost to replace.

After assembling the passenger door, I took a break from doors. As I get closer to having everything assembled, I can’t avoid assembling the driver door much longer. Since it’s been so long, I have already forgotten all the nuances associated with assembling, so its like its all new. I left out a number of details on my last write-up, so I figured I better do some more documenting. I expect I will be doing doors again as well.

I have had a taped bundle of parts sitting in the pile from the tear down that I finally opened up and took inventory of and got to work putting it all back together.

I previously did a write-up when I rebuilt my parking brake on my 67 coupe, I didn’t replace the handle as mine was in fine condition. With my son’s 67 coupe, the handle was broken off so I went ahead and rebuilt the mechanism and replaced the handle. There are a few details I learned, so I thought I would share.

The exhaust has been a long running project. I bought the Arvinode exhaust nearly 2 years ago after doing a bit of research, This week, it was finally at a point in the project where I had to get it installed before I could consider starting the engine for the first time. There have been a lot of little advances in between.

Most of the sheet metal removal is done at this point, and a good bit of work has been done to re-assemble a fresh body. It seems a new surprise was around every corner, but in the end, I guess I will have a brand new 65 fastback with zero rust. It just won’t have much sheet metal from 1965.

Door hinges are not that expensive, but mine are cast iron, aka durable, and can be rebuilt, so I feel I should use them. Reusing original whenever I can tends to end better. These hinges are the original cast iron, so they should be plenty durable, just needing a new pin, which is readily available in a hinge rebuild kit.

I have been waiting for NPD to get the quality fog light bars in stock so I could finish the grille. Checking in recently, I see they are in, so its time to finish up that detail.
