The new firewall replacement came in. I ordered the Dynacorn, which appears to be sold everywhere. I saw that Jo Daddy’s Garage used the same one in weld through primer, so I reached out to him to see how it fits and got a positive response. In the end, I opted to order it from Mustangs Unlimited due to the free shipping. I expected some damage courtesy UPS, and I was not disappointed, but it was only minor and easily corrected. The alternative of $250 in freight shipping for at $240 part wasn’t easily reconcilable here. In the end, the gamble payed off. Continue reading “New Firewall Comparison”
Core work has started on the fastback. As I really dig into it, I found some significant issues that have caused me to be a little more drastic than I would have hoped. The value in this car really is all the good parts it came with, and the fastback C code VIN. When done, there won’t be much of the original body left, but it will be like new. Better in some ways. Having done some research, I decided I wouldn’t be restoring the original fuel injection on the 93 5.0 that came with the 65. If you remember, my previous investigation showed the engine was a 5.0 High Output from a 93 Mustang GT. It originally had what I consider a pretty ugly EFI system on it. It actually had parts for a second as well. I have decided I will go Fuel Injection, but I plan on going with one of the modern replacements like FiTech or a Holley Sniper. The 5 speed automatic that came with the 65 fastback had some assembly required when I received it. Well, it was actually a couple of boxes of parts. Someone before me was rebuilding it and ran into some issues, leaving it for a project. Fortunately, the project also came with a good DVD on how to rebuild a T-5 transmission. Since the previous owner had owned it for a long time with many plans to make it a resto-mod, many of the parts are from various vehicles from a variety of years.
